Crowds are enjoying perfect weather at the Volvo Ocean Race Village at Viaduct today, Saturday while super cyclone Pam batters and thrashes her way south.
The party’s nearly over. Saturday is the last day to take in the scene and enjoy the attractions of the pop-up village, which is destined to next arise in Newport, Rhode Island in the USA.
The windy party crasher is predicted to skim through Auckland’s offshore waters on Monday with her first effects felt on Sunday but today is all go!

While it’s all fun and games the six Volvo Ocean Race race boats will battle it out on the Waitemata Harbour in the vital points-scoring New Zealand Herald In-Port Race.
Racing starts at 2:00 pm and will last about an hour. Visitors can take in the spectacle of the boats docking out and returning, banners flying. They can watch the racing from harbour vantage points near the Race Village or get up close on the village’s big TV screens.
